
Wildcats Fall on the Road to William Penn, 66-49
OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Coming off a good win at home on Saturday over Culver-Stockton, the Baker women's basketball team dropped a make-up game on the road against William Penn on Monday afternoon, 66-49.
Destiny Kiner led the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points, as eight of those points came from the free throw line. Sophia Barrett also reached double figures with a late three-pointer to score 12 points while Alyssa Morris added nine points.
Baker struggled to get things going offensively, shooting 23.7 percent from the field while going 5-for-31 from three. The Wildcats outrebounded the Statesmen in the game, pulling down 39 boards while William Penn pulled down 37.
It took almost eight minutes in the first quarter for Baker to get their first field goal as the Statesmen pulled ahead early, 13-3. The Wildcats were then able to go on a small run to end the quarter, heading into the second quarter trailing by seven, 16-9.
Early in the second quarter, Baker was able to cut the lead down to four but were held at arm's length. Alyssa Morris was then able to knock down a huge three with three minutes left in the half to tie the game at 24, but WPU would finish the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 30-24 lead into halftime.
Late in the third quarter, the Wildcats still only trailed by three points, but Baker would go without a field goal for the final three minutes of the quarter and trailed by 12 with just one quarter to play, 47-35.
William Penn came out firing in the fourth quarter and never gave Baker the opportunity to mount a comeback as Baker fell to the Statesmen, 66-49.
With the loss, Baker is now 3-14 on the season and 2-13 in Heart of America play. They will be back on the road on Wednesday, January 22, when they travel to Parkville, Mo., to take on Park University at 5:30 p.m.
