Barrett, Morris Named to Heart All-Conference Teams
BALDWIN CITY - After helping lead an incredible second-half turnaround, Baker women's basketball seniors Sophia Barrett and Alyssa Morris represented the Wildcats on the 2024-25 Heart of America Athletic Conference All-Conference Teams as the league announced its postseason honors on Friday afternoon.
As a four-year starter for BU, Barrett (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was named to the All-Heart Second Team, giving her all-conference honors in three of her four seasons with a second-team selection in 2022-23 and an honorable mention nod in 2021-22.
The senior guard led the Wildcats in rebounding (165) and field goal percentage (49.4%) and averaged 15.2 points per game, while her team-best 59 steals and 32 blocks granted her a spot on the Heart's All-Defensive Team.
Barrett eclipsed 1,000 career points in late January before eventually settling her career total at 1,166 points. She closed out her season by averaging over 22 points in her final eight games, including a career-high 30 points against Benedictine, and was rewarded with back-to-back Heart Offensive Player of the Week awards in the final two weeks of the regular season.
In her second season since transferring from Bethel (Tenn.), Morris (Sr., Odessa, Mo.) was selected to the All-Heart Third Team as the Wildcats' leading scorer (15.5 ppg) and three-point shooter, tallying 68 threes on the year and shooting at a 33.3-percent clip from deep (68-for-204).
Morris scored a career-high 32 points in the season opener at Ottawa and made six 3-pointers in a game on two separate occasions this year. She tied the program's single-game 3-point mark twice last year with seven threes in back-to-back games to close out the 2023-24 season.
The Wildcats finished 9-17 on the season and 8-16 in conference play, completely flipping the scrip in the second half of the season where they won six of their last eight games to come within a win of making the Heart Conference Tournament.
With the nine wins, Baker improved on its 4-24 record from last year and marked their third-most conference wins (8) of the last six seasons.
