
Dokolas Finishes 10th, Men’s Bowling Earns Two Top-Five Finishes at Eagle Invite
BELTON, Mo. – Competing for the first time since the holiday break, the Baker bowling teams traveled to Belton, Mo. this past weekend to compete at the Eagle Invitational I and II, hosted by Avila.
To start the weekend, the Wildcat women began the first of two tournaments by finishing in the middle of the 12-team field. The team posted scores of 798, 790, 775, 741, and 896 for a total pinfall of 4,000 to finish in seventh.
Sophomore Kaliegh Buckalew led the Wildcats with a total five-game pinfall of 861 for a 172 average. Audrey Valdez was the next-highest finisher for Baker in 34th with a 160 average, and Dylan Holmes followed close behind in 36th with a 159 average.
The BU men had a strong start to the first tournament, shooting 1,016 in their first game, which was good enough to put them in second. As the day went on, the team stayed consistent with their high scores, rolling totals of 996, 1,000, 962, and 985 to finish the day in fifth. The Wildcats were led by freshman PJ Dokolas, who averaged 211 with a 1,057 pinfall to round out the top 10 individually. Brett Gamber was the next-highest finisher for the men in 24th with a total pinfall of 1009.
On Sunday, the teams competed in the second tournament of the weekend. Qualifying consisted of 25 baker games, with total pinfall determining the final standings. The women posted totals of 785, 818, 760, 930, and 758 for a total pinfall of 4,051 to finish in sixth. The Wildcats were the second-highest of the conference teams at the tournament behind Peru State by 76 pins.
On the men's side, they posted a total pinfall of 4,708 with set totals of 941, 993, 879, 958, and 937. The men finished the second tournament in fifth and were the highest-placed Heart of America Conference school. The next-highest team was Missouri Valley who had a total pinfall of 4,342.
Both teams will return to the lanes on February 1st and 2nd as they host the NAIA West Regionals in Lawrence and Topeka, Kan.
