Dines Captures Individual Championship, Wildcats Compete at Virginia McCoy Invite

PARKVILLE, Mo. – Freshman golfer Gavin Dines took first place in the men's field to highlight Baker golf's outing at the Virginia McCoy Invite earlier this week where the Wildcat men tied for fifth in the team standings, while the women's team finished in sixth.

With the two-day tournament being held at The National Golf Club of Kansas City, Dines shot a 73 in the first round and a 69 in the final round to finish even and earn first-place honors.

After sitting in ninth after Monday's opening round, the BU men came back and posted the lowest score of the final round to finish tied for fifth with fellow Heart team Grand View with a score of 603.

Along with Dines' top marks, Ben Lemke and Cole Fischman placed among the top-40 with Lemke shooting a team-best 68 on Tuesday to finish tied for 17th, while Fischman finished tied for 39th. Andrew Burdett and Carson Floersch each shot a 73 in their final rounds to round out the scoring for BU.

The BU women posted scores of 358 and 352 to finish sixth overall for the tournament, sitting ahead of conference teams Park (8th) and MidAmerica Nazarene (10th).

Reagan Kauth paced the women's squad with her two-round score of 163, placing her ninth among the tournament's 53 golfers. Following Kauth, Gracyn Nutsch and Mallory Nelson each turned in top-30 performances with Nutsch shooting a 177 to place 25th and Nelson recording a 180 to place 29th. Finishing out the scoring for the Wildcats, Katie Murray and Olivia Morgan had their lowest score come on Monday's round.

Baker continues its fall schedule with the women's team heading to the TPC Deere Run Invitational on Oct. 16-17 in Silvis, Ill before both groups compete at Conference Preview later this month on Oct. 30-31 in Moravia, Iowa.
