Women’s Golf Opens 2024 Fall Campaign at Sand Creek Station

NEWTON, Kan. - The Baker women's golf team kicked off the fall portion of its 2024-25 season this week with the Sand Creek Station Intercollegiate where the Wildcats took fourth place in their season-opening competition.

The Wildcats matched their highest three-round total since at least 2001 after finishing with a combined score of 992, capping off the tournament with a fantastic final round that saw them shoot a 322.

Reagan Kauth (+19) turned in her best collegiate outing and finished seventh on the leaderboard after posting a four-over-par in her final 18 holes which was the third-best score in the final round. Kauth, a sophomore from Overland Park, Kan., recorded a top-15 finish and earned All-Heart honors at last year's conference tournament.

Fellow all-conference returner for BU, Paula Martin-Montero, finished 13th overall (+27) in Newton, Kan. with her best round coming in Tuesday's opener where she shot a 78. Martin-Montero placed eighth at the Heart Championships this past spring.

Newcomers Ally Laverty (+41) and Izabelle Backstrom (+45) were the next-highest scorers the Wildcats with Laverty finishing inside the top-20 at 19th, while Backstrom followed closely behind in 21st. Olivia Morgan shot an 87 in back-to-back rounds to close out the first outing of her junior campaign.

Playing individually, freshman Madison Zubeck (+26) rounded out the top-10 after starting off the tournament with a 79 and then shooting an 80 in her final round to place 10th.

With the Baker men heading out for their solo tournament at the NAIA Midwest Invite later this month (Sept. 23-24), both BU teams will be in action together at the Virginia McCoy Invite, hosted by Park, on Oct. 7-8 at The National Golf Club in Parkville, Mo.
