Dines Takes Home Fall Men’s Title, BU Women Finish Third at Heart Preview

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Baker men's and women's golf team closed out the fall portion of their 2024-25 seasons at the Heart Fall Preview this week where Gavin Dines topped the leaderboard in the men's field, while the BU women took third in the team standings.

With this year's conference tournament being played at the Nicklaus Golf Course at Lionsgate in Overland Park, Kan., the Baker women's team had four golfers finish inside the top-25 to place third among the nine Heart teams. Led by Dines, the BU men cut 24 strokes off their first round of 18 to finish sixth with a combined two-day tally of 636.

Sitting in second going into the hole, Dines sank a 12-foot eagle putt on his final hole of the tournament to leapfrog the leaderboard and earn his first individual title since winning the Virginia McCoy Invite in 2023. The sophomore from Olathe, Kan. was the only golfer to finish under par in both rounds of the Heart's fall tournament with a 71 in his first outing on Monday, followed by a 70 on Tuesday to lead a men's pack that featured 57 players.

Drew Lisec (+16) and Keegan Feder (+21) both knocked a few strokes off their day-one cards with Lisec shooting a 73 in the final round to finish 29th overall and Feder with an 80 to tie for 39th. Carson Schlup (+26) followed in 45th with a two-round score of 170.

Leading the way for the Wildcat women, Izabelle Backstrom (+13) earned a top-five finish after posting the second-best round of the tournament with a 75 in her final 18. Reagan Kauth (+19) joined Backstrom in the top-10 with a 78 in her final round to place 10th overall.

Paula Martin-Montero (+29) and Madison Zubeck (+32) had a five-place gap between them as well with Martin-Montero shooting a 173 for the tournament and placing 15th, while Zubeck took 20th on a score of 176. Ally Laverty (+35) rounded out the team's scoring with an 84 in her last round to finish tied for 23rd.

The Wildcats close out a fall campaign that saw the women's team finish fourth or higher in all four of their tournaments, including a runner-up outing at Park's Virginia McCoy Invite. The BU men took sixth in two of their last three tournaments and had a fifth-place finish at the Battle at the Dance last week.
