MARSHALL, Mo. – A three-goal effort from No.23 Missouri Valley handed Baker women's soccer a 3-0 setback in a Heart of America match here Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Mo.
The Vikings scored a pair of goals in the first half and added a third in the second half to win their seventh straight match.
Baker was outshot in the match 16-2 with both of the Wildcats' attempts coming from sophomore midfielder Ellie Shumate in the second half.
MVC scored in the opening 10 minutes of the match on a goal by Miriam Aldabo Alguero in the eight minute to give the hosts a quick 1-0 lead. Then, in the 29th minute, Ashley Arribas made it a two-goal advantage off of a header from a Vikings free kick.
Looking to break through midway through the second half, Shumate's first shot came on a free kick header, while her second attempt sailed just wide of goal a couple minutes later.
The Vikings capped the match with a goal in the 77th minute to earn the conference victory.
Up next, the Wildcats return to Baldwin City for a match against Park on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. out at Hartley Field.
