Wildcats Fall to Pioneers, 4-0 in Conference Road Match

OLATHE, Kan. – Playing in wet conditions on the road, the Baker women's soccer team fell to (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene, 4-0 in a Heart matchup on Tuesday afternoon in Olathe, Kan.

The Pioneers scored a pair of goals in each half while shutting out a Wildcats side that was fresh off a five-goal performance from Saturday's 5-0 win against Graceland. MNU led 12-4 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.

The Wildcats had four different players register a shot in the contest with Lydia Brinker, Darcy Cato, Cate Nearmyer and Bella Wiles each having one apiece.

Less than 10 minutes into the action, a deflected Pioneers shot turned disaster for the Wildcats as the ball took an unfortunate spin and landed at the feet of MNU's Kirsten Wetterstrom who collected it in stride and fired in the game's opening goal.

Then, in the 35th minute, a free kick opportunity in MNU's attacking third led to its second goal after an arching cross was put into the back of the net to give the hosts a two-goal advantage.

MNU added two more goals in the second half with Wetterstrom completing her hat trick on a goal in the final minute of play after scoring in the 53rd minute as well.

Baker recorded a couple shots and earned a pair of corner kicks in the game's final 10 minutes, beginning with Brinker creating an open look for herself near the top of the box, but her shot sailed high. Nearmyer put up a shot on goal for the Wildcats in the 86th minute, taking a left-footed strike and forcing the MNU keeper to react quickly for the save.

Heading into the final match of the regular season, the Wildcats sit at 4-10-2 overall for the year and are 3-6-1 in conference play. They will play their regular-season finale on the road at Mount Mercy on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
