DUBUQUE, Iowa - A Clarke goal in the 82nd minute spoiled an impressive defensive effort for the Baker women's soccer team as the Wildcats dropped a 1-0 result to the Pride on the road on Saturday.
BU keeper Avery Young recorded a season-high 12 saves while going up against a relentless CU attack that peppered her with 29 shots in the match.
The Pride also owned a big advantage in set pieces with 11 corner kicks in the game, while Baker's only corner kick came late in the second half.
After over 80 minutes of a scoreless deadlock, Clarke scored the game-winner off of its final corner kick of the match with Hope Ward knocking in the goal for the home team.
Facing a Clarke squad that had six shutouts on the season coming into the game, the Wildcats offense was held to five shots in the match with forward Emma Schieber having all three of her attempts going towards goal.
Schieber's best look of the game came shortly after CU's goal as she launched one from outside the box that forced the keeper to make a leaping one-handed save.
After winning three of their first five away games, the Wildcats have dropped back-to-back road matches with a 2-0 setback at Benedictine on Wednesday.
Baker returns home next weekend to take on Mount Mercy on Saturday, Oct. 12 with kickoff at 5 p.m. at Hartley Field.
