Young Named Heart Defensive Player of the Week

BALDWIN CITY - For the second time this season, Baker women's soccer goalkeeper Avery Young was tabbed Heart Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, presented by WinWon, following her performance in the Wildcats' 2-0 victory at Park on Saturday

Young, a freshman from Spring Hill, Kan., earned her second straight shutout to help lead BU to a must-win victory over the Pirates. With the win, the Wildcats clinched a spot in the Heart Conference Tournament, drawing the No. 7 seed in the eight-team playoff.

Starting in every game of the regular season, but one, Young recorded three solo clean sheets and combined for another one, while racking up a total of 94 seasons in her freshman campaign. She earned conference player of the week honors earlier this fall after shutting out Ottawa in a non-conference match back in August.

Young and the Wildcats will square off against the No. 2 seed Benedictine in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Heart Women's Soccer Conference Tournament, presented by WinWon, on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
