Wildcats Fall to Ravens at Home, 3-0

BALDWIN CITY - After winning back-to-back matches for the first time since 2022, Baker women's soccer dropped its midweek conference match against Benedictine, 3-0 here Wednesday night at Hartley Field.

The Ravens scored once in the first half, added two more in the second half and held the Wildcats off the scoreboard for the first time this season with BU coming into the night scoring at least three goals in its last three matches.

The Benedictine offense controlled quite a bit of the match with the visitors finishing with a 15-5 advantage in shots and a 7-6 margin in corner kicks after BC took all seven of its corner kicks in the second half.

Sidney Claeys and Caitlin Youles each had a couple of shots put up for BU with Youles taking a few free kicks that were set up in prime spots.

It was a quiet start to the match before Benedictine broke the deadlock in the 29th minute. Baker earned two corner kicks in the first 15 minutes, but the Ravens defense was able to clear away both set pieces.

After going into halftime with a one-goal lead, the Ravens came out for the second half and immediately earned three corner kicks in the first five minutes, scratching across a second goal in the 56th to go up, 2-0.

With BU looking to respond, BC delivered the final blow with a goal in the 87th to seal the 3-0 result and come out on top of a matchup between two teams in the top six of the conference standings.

The setback cools off a surging Baker squad that had earned a result in five of its six previous matches and came in with a two-match winning streak.

Baker moves to 3-4-2 on the season and will look to rebound at home on Saturday, Sept. 27 as the Wildcats take on Mount Mercy starting at 1 p.m. in Baldwin City.
