Baker Tennis Teams Fall to Evangel on the Road, 5-2 and 6-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – This past weekend, the Baker tennis teams travelled to Springfield, Mo., to take on Evangel where the men fell 6-1 and the women fell 5-2.

On the men's side, Baker's No. 1 doubles team of Alejandro Hernandez-Carreno and Juan Manuel Avila were able to pick up a big win, 6-0, but after losing No. 2 doubles and defaulting in No. 3 doubles, the Valor were able to pick up the doubles point.

Individually, Hernandez-Carreno was the only Wildcat to win their singles match, winning by scores of 4-6, 6-4 and 10-7 to earn Baker's second point. Manuel Avila also went to three sets in his singles match but eventually fell, 6-3, 3-6 and 10-0.

For the women, the No. 1 doubles team of Dayna Steadman and Carol Feraz-Porto won 6-2 and then the No. 2 doubles team of Chassidy Weathers and Cambrie Frame won 6-1 to give Baker the early doubles point.

Feraz-Porto also was the only Baker singles player to come away with a win defeating her opponent in three sets to earn Baker's second point of the match. Both Steadman and Weathers took their singles matches to three sets but ended up falling just short.

Both Baker tennis teams will be back in action on Wednesday, March 8, when they travel to Hillsboro, Kan., to take on Pratt Community College and Tabor at 10 a.m., and 12 p.m. respectively.
