Wildcats Open Indoor Season at Bob Timmons; Allen Places Eighth at NAIA Marathon

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Baker men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their 2023-24 indoor seasons, competing at the Bob Timmons Challenge, hosted by Kansas at the Anschutz Sports Pavilion in Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday.

Additionally, three Wildcat distance runners were in action at the NAIA Marathon Championships in Sacramento, Calif. on Sunday with senior Brooke Allen finishing inside the top-10 after placing eighth overall in the women's race. The NAIA Marathon National Championship was held as a stand-alone event this year, as it used to be part of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Coming off a 2023 cross country season that saw her qualify for the NAIA Championships, Allen ran a 3:10.00 to finish eighth in the 26-mile race which featured 35 runners in the women's race. Haley Carter finished in 16th with a time of 3:26.07, while Zain Khan rounded out the top-10 after he ran a 2:36.19 and finished in 10th in the men's event.

In Lawrence, the Wildcats had five top-10 finishes, highlighted by Tavius Woodall taking second place in the men's 200-meter dash, while Jamesperry Frazier had the other top-five performance for BU after coming in fifth in the men's 60-meter hurdles.

Woodall, a senior sprinter from Houston, Texas, is following up a 2022-23 season that saw him qualify for the NAIA Indoor Championships in the 60m and 200m where he ended up breaking the program's 200m indoor record (21.57) at the national meet.

In the women's 200m race, freshman Alexis Summers clocked a 26.16 to finish in seventh in her first outing as a Wildcat. She also competed in the 400m where she finished just past the minute mark at 1:02.54 to place ninth overall, while fellow newcomer Rylee Lansdown crossed a few seconds behind her at 1:07.11 in 13th.

Wyatt Allen earned a top-10 finish in the men's 3000-meter race with his time of 9:43.82 placing him in ninth.

Gage Hiebert placed ninth in the men's weight throw with a toss of 13.53 meters and had teammate Kameron Glasper following right behind him with a 13.42-meter throw placing him 11th. In the women's weight throw, Colbie Fairley marked a throw of 13.63 meters to finish 13th in the event.

The Wildcats continue with the indoor season with its first of two trips to Pitt State as they compete in the Gorillas' Crimson & Gold Invite on Saturday, Dec. 9 with running events beginning at 11 a.m. and field events at Noon in Pittsburg, Kan.
