Track and Field Competes at Washburn Open

TOPEKA, Kan. – Baker men's and women's track and field competed at the Washburn Open this past weekend with Tavius Woodall picking up an NAIA 'B' standard in the 200-meter dash to highlight the first of back-to-back trips to Topeka, Kan.

On Friday, Woodall clocked a time of 21.78 to finish 25th in the 200m for his first outing this season under 22 seconds in the event. Woodall, who owns the program's indoor 200m record (21.57), recorded his fastest 60m time of the season on Friday's qualifying round as well after finishing with a 6.88 to move on to prelims where he would finish 19th overall for the event.

In her first 800m race of the season, Rachel Sterner set a new personal indoor best after marking a time of 2:24.83, finishing just a few ticks behind her 800m outdoor record (2:24.60) that she set at last year's conference outdoor championships.

Brooke Allen paced the Wildcats distance group in both women's races, finishing 15th in the 5K with a time of 19:53.11 and running an 11:37.95 to place 29th in the 3K. Haley Carter shaved a few seconds off her first 5K time of the season, going 20:03.71 and finishing 20th overall. Anthony Davis was the lone men's distance runner in Topeka and recorded a time of 16:16.99 in the 5K.

The Wildcats fielded teams in the distance medley relays with the women's DMR team placing top-10 (10th) and the men's squad finishing in 16th.

In the field events, McLane Rawie came close to earning two top-20 finishes after placing 18th in the men's triple jump with a season-best mark of 13.50 meters and then finishing 21st in the long jump. Naomi Kilson took 17th in the women's long jump with her furthest jump of the day coming at 5.26 meters.

Ryan Jensen was the first of three Wildcats to finish in the men's weight throw with the senior from Ottawa, Kan. placing 24th on a throw of 14.21 meters. Gage Hiebert (13.87m) followed closely behind in 26th and Kameron Glasper (13.12m) rounded out the event for BU in 32nd. Glasper also went 12.73 meters to finish 27th in the men's shot put.

Baker will make a return to Wasburn's campus for its next meet with this weekend's Ichabod Invitational set to begin on Friday, Feb. 9 at 2:00 p.m. and continuing on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Topeka.
