Wildcats Commence Indoor Season at KU’s Bob Timmons Challenge
LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Baker men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the 2024-25 indoor season by competing at the Bob Timmons Challenge, hosted by Kansas, this past Saturday in Lawerence, Kan.
Overall, the Wildcats came away with six top-five finishes at the season-opening meet that featured four NCAA programs and only one other NAIA school in Central Methodist.
After taking third at the Heart Outdoor Championships last year, Trot Wood opened up with a third-place finish in his first 400-meter race this season. He clocked a time of 49.71 and added another 50-second split (50.41) in the men's 4x400m relay that BU took seventh in.
Wyatt Allen (2:44.08) took third in the men's 1,000m race, while Aidan Massey (8:54.42) rounded out the top five in the men's 3K after placing fifth overall. Massey, a senior from Olathe, Kan., was a national qualifier and conference runner-up this past cross country season.
Jamesperry Frazier came within a couple of ticks of his personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, running an 8.81 to place fourth in the event. Freshman Eithan Kodger followed close behind in sixth on a time of 9.34.
Kameron Glasper's third-place showing in the men's weight throw highlighted things for BU in the field events. He hit a personal-best mark with a throw of 14.92 meters and tacked on a sixth-place finish in the shot put.
For the BU women, Naomi Kilson placed fifth in the long jump with her furthest distance coming at 5.38 meters. The senior from Long Beach, Calif. took seventh in the women's 60m with a personal-best time of 7.88 and followed with an eighth-place finish in the 200m.
Julie Coffey finished seventh in the shot put (9.94m) and ninth in the weight throw (11.05m), while freshman Bailey Arceneaux took seventh in the women's 400m on a time of 1:00.21.
After opening up with the first competition of its four-meet regular season, Baker will take an extended break before continuing with indoor action in mid-January. The Wildcats will compete next at Northwest Missouri State's Coach Richard Alsup Open on Jan. 18 in Maryville, Mo.
