
Wildcats Pick Indoor Season Back Up with Coach Alsup Invite
MARYVILLE, Mo. - After opening up their season back in early December, the Baker track and field teams shook off the holiday rust and competed in the Coach Alsup Invite, hosted by Northwest Missouri State, this past weekend in Maryville, Mo.
The Wildcats collected a total of 10 top-10 finishes with Trot Wood coming away with a third-place finish and a fourth-place finish.
Wood ran a 22.54 in the 200-meter dash to place third and a 49.51 in the 400m to take fourth, shaving a few ticks off his 400m time from the season opener (49.71).
Freshman Bailey Arceneaux had a couple of top-10 races, running a sub-60 in the 400m (59.86) to earn seventh and an eighth-place finish in the 200m where she clocked a 26.17.
Rachel Sterner finished in sixth in the women's 1,000m with a time of 3:11.33 and had another solid outing in the 600-yard run where she took eighth on a time of 1:33.52.
In field events, Jonathan Ruiz cleared the bar at 3.45 meters in the men's pole vault and placed seventh in the event. CarVelle Jones marked a jump of 12.13 meters and came in 10th in the men's triple jump.
Competing in his first meet since joining the team, PJ McCallop Jr. recorded a time of 22.79 and earned a ninth-place finish in the 200m. McCallop has started at defensive back for the Baker football team the past two seasons and was a first-team all-conference selection this past year.
Up next, Baker will be back in action with the Washburn Open on January 31st and February 1st in Topeka, Kan.
