Wildcats Continue Outdoor Season at Gorilla Classic

RESULTS
PITTSBURG, Kan. - Baker track and field continued its outdoor campaign at the Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pitt State, this past Saturday where the Wildcats set season-high marks and showed great progress in their third outdoor outing of 2023.

Gage Hiebert recorded a season-best throw in the javelin with a distance of 61.56 meters to earn second place. Hiebert now holds the league's best javelin mark by close to a five-meter gap. He also took 19th in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.59 meters.

In his first meet of the spring, Isaiah Howard placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.50 and finished seventh in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles on a wind-aided time of 14.71.

In the men's 5K, Aidan Massey clocked a sub-16 minute time (15:51.71) to finish ninth, while Haley Carter and Ellie Barnard finished in the top-10 of the women's 5K race with Carter (19:28.35) coming in fifth and Barnard (20:48.68) following in ninth.

Jackson Stoppel came in fourth in the men's pole vault, eclipsing his highest mark of the season after bowing out at 4.20 meters.

Colbie Fairley and Julie Coffey each came away with a trio of top-30 finishes in Pittsburg with Fairley placing 24th in the hammer throw (37.81m) to go along with a couple of 25th-place finishes in the shot put (9.57m) and discus (35.30). Coffey placed 20th in the javelin (34.24m), 27th in the shot (9.24m) and 28th in the discus (31.45m).

Rylee Lansdown ran the fastest lap of her freshman season so far with a 1:05.19 in the women's 400m to finish 22nd overall, while teammate Jailah Robinson (1:06.36) followed closely behind in 26th.

Jana Landreth and Natalie Kennedy went 1-2 in the women's 3000m steeplechase with Landreth running a winning time of 121:50.80 and Kennedy coming up nine seconds behind her to finish in second.

Up next, Baker continues its stretch of meets hosted by an MIAA school with a trip to Central Missouri's Mule Relays on Friday, April 12 with the single-day meet set to kick off at 12 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo.
