Rawie Marks NAIA Standard, Wildcats Host ZK Invite in Regular-Season Finale

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Serving as the final tune-up meet before next week's Heart Championships, Baker track and field hosted the first of back-to-back meets in Baldwin City with the 2024 ZK Invite taking place here Saturday at Liston Stadium.

As part of Senior Day, the Wildcats recognized eight seniors for their contributions to the Baker track and field program. These seniors included Brooke Allen, Jayson Brown, Colbie Fairley, Kameron Glasper, Gage Hiebert, Caleb Nelson, Lilyan Rodriguez and Jackson Stoppel.

Highlighting the day for BU was freshman McLane Rawie, who posted a national-qualifying performance in the men's long jump and became the third Wildcat to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships, coming up in less than a month.

Rawie went 7.26 meters on his fifth attempt of the afternoon, just clearing the NAIA 'A' standard mark (7.25m) and claiming first place in the competition. He joins Hiebert and Nelson, who both qualified in the men's javelin, as the national qualifiers for BU so far this season.

Dontez Carr made it a Wildcats sweep in the horizontal jumps on the men's side with a winning leap of 13.93m in the triple jump. Naomi Kilson hit a distance of 5.35m and finished in seventh in the women's long jump.

Caden West (44.29m) and Kameron Glasper (44.06m) each marked season-high tosses in the men's hammer throw, finishing back-to-back in eighth and ninth, respectively. Brown (40.94m) also had his best throw of the season in the event.

Glasper hit another season-best mark in the shot put, placing fifth on a throw of 14.69m. Clearing the bar at 4.10 meters, Stoppel took third in the men's pole vault.

In the women's javelin, Julie Coffey earned runner-up honors on a throw of 34.83m, while Fairley placed fifth in the women's discus with her furthest distance coming in at 39.20m.

The Baker distance group of Allen (11:30.35), Haley Thompson (13:28.66) and Kiley Hawk (14:20.09) went 1-2-3 in the women's 3K, while Davin Johnson (9:25.57) took first in the men's 3K race and Grayson Fink (9:38.44) followed in third. Peyton Peterson placed third in the women's 1,500-meter run on a time of 5:23.26.

Rachel Sterner ran a 2:25.32 and placed second in the women's 800m and Mario Marsetti finished in seventh in the men's 400m race after clocking a 51.80.

Sprinters Jailah Robinson and Da'Mah Stacker each finished among the top seven in their respective sprints with Robinson (27.27) taking fifth in the 200m and Stacker (13.29) placing seventh in the 100m.

With Baker playing host to this year's conference meet, the 2024 Heart Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place on May 3-4 in Baldwin City with the competition getting underway on Friday, May 3 at 12:30 p.m. and finishing up on Saturday, May 4 starting at 9:30 a.m.
