
Baker Track and Field Battles Rainy Conditions at Midwest Classic
EMPORIA, Kan. – Facing rainy and wet conditions for most of the day, the Baker track and field team competed at Emporia State's Midwest Classic on Friday in the first meet of April for the Wildcats.
In its second road meet of the outdoor regular season, BU posted four top-three finishes with Alexis Summers earning runner-up honors in the women's 100-meter dash.
Summers clocked a personal-best 12.18 seconds in the 100m which ranks third among all Heart of America Conference sprinters this season. Her mark sits just a half-second off of the NAIA 'B' Standard which is 11.88 seconds.
Rachel Sterner took third in the women's 800m with a time of 2:26.00 with teammate Natalie Kennedy following close behind in fifth with a 2:28.43.
CarVelle Jones set a personal record in the men's long jump with his furthest distance coming at 6.48 meters which placed him third overall in the event. He added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump on a mark of 13.04 meters.
The BU women's 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Jaliah Robinson, Shanniel Graham, Makenna Longacre and Marley Battles ran a 51.08 and placed third.
Jana Landreth knocked off a few seconds from her winning time from BU's Wildcat Classic last weekend and recorded a 12:50.47 and took fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Caleb Nelson went 55.55 meters and placed fifth in the men's javelin, while Kameron Glasper came in seventh in the men's discus with his best distance coming at 45.59 meters.
Haley Carter and Kristi Chambers finished in back-to-back spots in the women's 5K with Carter running a 19:05.53 and placing fifth and Chambers following in sixth with a time of 19:13.50.
Up next, Baker will take part in the Mule Relays, hosted by Central Missouri, which are set for Friday, April 11 in Warrensburg, Mo.
