Wildcats Finish 2024 Season With Three Set Loss to MNU
OLATHE, Kan. – Marking the end of the 2024 season, the Baker volleyball team lost their last match of the year in three sets to MidAmerica Nazarene, 25-23, 25-14 and 25-18.
Kylie Murray led the Wildcats with eight kills and just three errors to hit .208 in the match, while Aby Widhalm picked up six kills for Baker. Taryn Dial had a team-high 12 assists, as Widhalm led the team with 15 digs while both Emma Grossoehme and Dial tallied seven digs.
With Baker trailing by a score of 6-5 in set one, the Pioneers went on a 10-2 run and held an 18-10 lead. Baker then got hot and scored 12 of the next 16 points to tie the game at 22 late in the set on a service ace from Dial. MNU then scored three of the next four points to win set one, 25-23 and take the momentum into set two.
The Pioneers held that momentum throughout the entire second set, jumping out to the early lead and never looking back as they would win the second set, 25-14 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
A short run for the Pioneers in the third set gave MNU the lead they were looking for and despite a few chances for Baker to rally off a few points, the Wildcats were not able to make a comeback and lost set three, 25-18, losing the match, 3-0.
With the loss, the Baker volleyball team finishes the 2024 season with a record of 11-15, marking the most wins for the program since the 2019 season going 4-13 in Heart of America Conference play. The Wildcats picked up seven wins inside the Collins Center which is the most since 2018 when Baker won 12 games at home.
