Women’s Wrestling Competes at Falcon Invite in First Tournament of 2023

PARK CITY, Kan. – Wrestling in its first tournament of the 2023-24 season, Baker women's wrestling competed at the Falcon Invite, hosted by Friends University on Saturday at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kan.

The Wildcats had three top-six finishes, highlighted by a runner-up outing by sophomore grappler Kylee Slyter, who claimed second place in the 109-pound division. Slyter won by decision in her first two matches of the tournament before falling in the championship at 109 pounds.

At 136 pounds, Belle Hernandez came in third place after winning her final two matches by decision, including a tough 3-2 win in the third-place match. Hernandez won by a 14-3 tech fall in her second match of the tournament and finished with a total of four wins for the day.

Zoe Shariq added a sixth-place finish after going 2-2 in her matches in the 123-pound bracket. She won by tech fall to earn a spot in the consolation semifinals where she bowed out of the tournament.

Wrestling in the 136-pound division, Abbie Jones won her first match of the day after she pinned her opponent in the first period.

Coming off a busy week that saw them compete in a couple of duals on Wednesday before Saturday's tournament, the Wildcats travel out-of-state for their next competition as they head to the Waldorf Open on Saturday, Nov. 11 with action getting underway at 9 a.m. in Forest City, Iowa.
