Jones, Avila Earn Third-Place Honors, Wildcats Compete at Waldorf Open

FOREST CITY, IOWA - Jannell Avila and Abbie Jones picked up third-place finishes to highlight the Baker women's wrestling team's outing at the Waldorf Open on Saturday where the Wildcats earned a total of four top-six finishes.

Avila and Jones both went 5-1 in their respective weight divisions with Avila winning her first three matches in the 191-pound bracket and Jones pinning her final two opponents to finish with third-place honors at 136 pounds.

Madi Hargett placed fifth in the 235-pound division after winning her first two matches by fall before capping her day with a 12-2 tech fall win in the placement match.

At 116 pounds, Abby Halstead finished in sixth place after picking up three wins in her first competition of the season.

Kylee Slyter and Mariam Shariq each had a couple of wins at the tournament as well with Slyter winning by tech fall in her two wins in the 109-pound bracket and Shariq earning a pin in her second bout of the day at 123 pounds.

Up next, the Wildcats head to Marshall, Mo. to compete in the Missouri Valley Open with the two-day tournament starting on Friday, Nov. 17 at 12 p.m. and wrapping up on Saturday, Nov. 18 with the final day of action beginning at 9 a.m.
