Wildcats Pick Up Three Top-Eight Finishes at Missouri Valley Open

MARSHALL, Mo. – Baker women's wrestling earned a trio of top-eight finishes at the Missouri Valley Open on Friday and Saturday with the two-day tournament serving as the largest women's collegiate wrestling tournament in the country with over 450 wrestlers competing in Marshall, Mo.

Martha Vizcarra led the WIldcats with a seventh-place finish in the 235-pound bracket after going 3-2 in her matches, including a 4-0 decision in her placement bout.

Elisa Robinson (191) and Kylee Slyter (109) each placed eighth in their respective divisions with Robinson winning two of her matches by pin, while Slyter won three straight matches at 109 pounds before falling in her final two bouts of the tournament.

Jaclyn Daley, Abby Halstead and Katherine Heath all collected three wins in Marshall with Halstead and Heath both competing in the 116-pound division. Halstead picked up three pins before eventually dropping out in the fifth round of the consolation bracket, while Heath won her first three matches of the day.

Also competing for the Wildcats were freshmen Mikyah Cain (130), Madi Hargett (235) and Ranie Paulin (116) as well as upperclassmen Aaliyah Bueno (116), Abbie Jones (136) and Mariam Shariq (123).

Baker will take a week off before heading out for a busy weekend in the Cornhusker State with duals against Midland and Southeast CC on Dec. 1 starting at 4 p.m. in Fremont, Neb., followed by the Doane Open on Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. in Crete, Neb.
