No. 19 Baker Closes Out NWCA National Duals with Victory Over No. 15 Doane

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – No. 19 Baker women's wrestling concluded its outing at the 2024 NWCA National Duals with an emphatic 28-18 victory over No. 15 Doane on Saturday as the Wildcats went 1-3 in their duals at the highly-competitive tournament, held at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa, this past weekend.

The Wildcats won the final two matches against the Tigers in exciting fashion with Jaclyn Daley earning a tech fall at 170 pounds and fellow freshman Jannell Avila following with a pin in the 191-pound match to secure Baker's victory.

Four other Wildcats picked up wins in the Tigers dual with Abbie Jones (130) and Reagan Wonnell (143) both pinning their opponents and Abby Halstead (109) and Katherine Heath (116) winning by tech fall.

Wrestling at 116 pounds, Heath went 4-0 overall on the weekend with a win over a ranked opponent in her first bout of the tournament. She defeated No. 2 Menlo's Ajayzee Zaballos, who ranks 11th in the NAIA at 123 pounds, by decision as part of back-to-back wins for BU in the dual against the Oaks following Kylee Slyter's win in the 109-pound match.

Heath added a tech fall against Missouri Valley on Friday and opened up Saturday's action with a 6-4 win in the Wildcats' 32-7 loss to (RV) Eastern Oregon. Elisa Robinson recorded the other win for Baker in the dual against the Vikings, pinning her opponent at 191 pounds.

Before her victory in the finale, Avila picked up a win by tech fall in the dual against Eastern Oregon to finish with a 2-1 outing in Cedar Falls with back-to-back wins on the final day.

Up next, Baker will host its first dual of 2024 with a matchup against conference opponent Missouri Valley on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Collins Center.
