No. 19 Baker Claims Senior Night Victory over No. 20 Central Methodist, 27-14

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The No. 19 Baker women's wrestling team came out on top of its Senior Night dual with conference opponent No. 20 Central Methodist, 27-14 as the front end of a wrestling doubleheader in the Collins Center on Wednesday night.

Prior to the match, the Wildcats recognized seven seniors for their contributions to the BU women's wrestling program. These seniors included, Aaliyah Bueno, Abby Halstead, Katherine Heath, Abbie Jones, Kassidy Leiszler, Elisa Robinson and Martha Vizcarra.

The Wildcats went 4-3 against the Eagles and with a couple of CMU opens were able to punctuate the win with back-to-back pins in the final two bouts.

Halstead opened things up with a tech fall in the 109-pound match and, following a CMU forfeit at 116, Heath chipped in three more points with a win by decision at 123 pounds. Wrestling up a weight class for her Senior Night match, the Fairview, Texas native defeated the NAIA's 15th-ranked wrestler at 123 pounds on an exciting 6-0 decision.

After Central Methodist won three straight matches to take a 14-12 lead, the Wildcats stormed back by claiming the final three rounds with Robinson and Jaclyn Daley teaming up for a couple of pins. An open at 155 put BU back ahead again and Daley earned a quick takedown in the 170-pound match to seal things for the Wildcats before Robinson garnished the night with a pin at 191 pounds.

With yesterday's victory, Baker picked up its second straight win against a Heart of America team after defeating Missouri Valley, 32-15 a couple of weeks ago in Collins.

It's a quick turnaround for the Wildcats as they head to an in-state tournament with the Spire Classic, hosted by Saint Mary on Friday, Jan. 26 at 9 a.m. in Leavenworth, Kan.
