Heath, Robinson Take Home Top Honors to Highlight Wildcats’ Outing at Spire Classic

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Topping off their Senior Night wins from Wednesday's dual with Central Methodist, seniors Katherine Heath and Elisa Robinson secured a pair of championships for Baker women's wrestling at the Spire Classic on Friday to close out a busy, but successful week for the Wildcats.

Overall, BU came away with five top-four finishes at the single-day tournament hosted by Saint Mary with the titles from Heath and Robinson highlighting the trip.

Heath came out on top at 116 pounds after winning her first two matches by tech fall and then finishing things off with a pin in the championship round. Robinson totaled five wins in her run through the 191-pound bracket with a couple of falls along the way, mimicking Heath with a pin in her title match as well.

Jaclyn Daley gave the Wildcats a total of three grapplers to reach the championship round, winning her first three matches at 170 pounds before falling in the finale to earn runner-up honors.

Wrestling in the 109-pound division, Kylee Slyter placed third after going 4-1 in her matches with her lone loss coming against the top-ranked wrestler in the NAIA. She earned a 9-1 decision in her placement match to finish in third.

Abbie Jones won back-to-back matches courtesy of a pin and a tech fall to spark her outing in the 130-pound bracket, taking fourth place after bowing out in a fifth placement match for BU.

Joining Heath at 116 pounds, Mariam Shariq won four matches with a set of pins and tech falls, while Baldwin High product Emma Grossoehme picked up a couple of wins with a tech fall and a pin in the 155-pound division.

The Wildcats went into today's tournament coming off an exciting 27-14 victory over the Eagles in Wednesday's Senior Night doubleheader, which featured a BU sweep after the men's team won their dual as well.

Baker will head to its final regular-season tournament of the 2023-24 campaign with a trip to the Grand View Open on Saturday, Feb. 3 in Des Moines, Iowa.
