No. 13 Baker Falls in Conference Dual at No. 10 Missouri Valley, 29-14
MARSHALL, Mo. - Wrestling in its first dual against a Heart of America team since the holiday break, No. 13 Baker came up short, 29-14 in its matchup at No. 10 Missouri Valley on Wednesday night in Marshall, Mo.
The Wildcats had three wrestlers come away with wins in the dual with Katherine Heath (117), Audrey Darnell (138) and Liz Cope (160) all winning their respective matches.
In a top-25 matchup at 117 pounds, No. 5 nationally ranked Heath took down MVC's Ashtyn Sagely, who ranks 18th nationally, on a 14-3 tech fall to bring the dual to a 10-4 deficit for BU.
Darnell grinded out a tough 5-0 decision win in her bout at 138 pounds and Cope followed with the Wildcats' lone pin of the dual with a takedown in the second period.
Along with a couple of pins, the Vikings recorded three tech falls to earn the double-digit victory, including a tech fall in the 180-pound match to put things out of reach.
Up next is a quick turnaround for Baker as they head to Indiana Tech's Warrior Open this weekend. The single-day tournament begins at 8 a.m. (CT) on Saturday, Jan. 25 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
