Women’s Wrestling Competes at Grand View Open

DES MOINES, Iowa - After wrestling in Fayette, Mo. on Thursday, the Baker women's wrestling had a quick turnaround for their final road tournament of the regular season as the Wildcats competed at the Grand View Open on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Wildcats earned five top-five finishes from the Silver division with Zoey Kessler (131) and Anna Patz (138) collecting runner-up honors to highlight the tournament. Zoey Freeman (124), Aileya Sath (131) and Johanna Carrasco (180) all finished fifth in their respective brackets.

Kessler tore through her first five matches at 131 pounds, winning by tech fall in four straight before coming up short in the title match.

Patz won four of her five matches in the 138-pound bracket with three tech falls and a pin in her quarterfinal match.

Freeman, Sath and Carrasco had four wins apiece as well with Freeman winning by pin in her first two matches of the tournament. Sath came out on top of three straight decision wins during her run of the 131-pound bracket, while Carrasco won all four of her matches by pin.

Up next, Baker will compete in its final dual of the regular season with a matchup at Saint Mary set for Saturday, February 8 at 6 p.m. in Leavenworth, Kan.
