Wildcats Open Up 2023 Season Playing Host to Baker U Rust Buster

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Kicking off the 2023 cross country season, the Baker Wildcats hosted the Baker U Rust Buster on Saturday where the women finished in second place and the men came in third on a beautiful morning out at the Baldwin City Golf Course.

As a team, the women finished with a total time of 1:20:51.67 to score a total of 76 points in the 4K race. The Wildcats finished behind fellow Heart of America team Benedictine who took first with 19 points on the day.

Brooke Allen paced the Wildcats and rounded out the top-5 in the race after finishing with a time of 15:29.40 in her 2023 debut. Allen is coming off a 2022 season that saw the LaCygne, Kan. native secure a spot at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships.

Haley Carter was next to cross the finish line for BU after she recorded a 16:00.72 to place 14th, while Natalie Kennedy (16:13.76) and Jana Landreth (16:19.71) each posted top-20 times as well.

On the men's side, the Wildcats took third after scoring 84 points which matched Haskell (16:44.01), but the BU men had a slightly faster average (16:42.68) with their total time of 1:23:33.37.

Baker's top runner was Anthony Davis who clocked a 16:18.68 to place eighth in the 5K race. Freshman Davin Johnson (16:37.83) followed Davis and came in 16th, while Jaden Vohs marked a time of 16:41.32 to finish in 18th place.

The Baker cross country teams will take a week off before heading to the Southern Stampede, hosted by Missouri Southern on Sept. 15 with the races beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Joplin, Mo.
