
Massey, BU Men Claim Titles at 2024 Billy Mills Classic
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Backed by a first-place performance from Aidan Massey, the Baker men's cross country team came away with the team title at the 2024 Billy Mills Classic on Saturday where the BU women also had a top-two finish.
With both Wildcat squads marking personal-best times, the Baker men had all five of their scorers place in the top-8 to total 26 points, finishing 20 points ahead of second-place Haskell.
Massey posted a time of 25:07.70 in the men's 8K race to claim his first individual title of the season, pacing a field of nearly 50 runners.
Jacob McGlasson ran a 26:33.30 and took fourth, while the Wildcats had three consecutive runners cross in the sixth, seventh and eighth spots with Jaden Vohs (26:58.50), Grayson Fink (27:03.00) and Michael Knaussman (27:04.40) rounding out the scoring for BU.
The BU women came within a point of making it a Wildcats sweep with their 42 points falling just short of Cottey (41) who took first in the 5K competition.
Ellie Barnard led the Wildcats with a third-place finish, knocking a full second off her previous best 5K mark with a 19:08.33 on Saturday.
Kristi Chambers (19:39.58) and Peyton Peterson (19:43.85) both turned in sub-20-minute times to finish in seventh and ninth, respectively. Jana Landreth (20:00.83) followed in 12th, while Natalie Kennedy (20:08.33) chipped in the final points with her 14th-place finish.
Baker closes out the 2024 regular season by hosting the 2024 Mike Spielman Classic on Friday, Oct. 18 with the women's 5K starting at 5 p.m., followed by the men's 8K at 5:40 p.m. at the Baldwin City Golf Course.
