Karn Named Heart Defensive Player of the Week

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker linebacker Canon Karn was selected as the Heart of America's Big Game Football Defensive Player of the Week, following his performance in the Wildcats' 48-14 victory at Missouri Valley on Saturday.

Receiving the conference's weekly award for the second time this season, Karn had two interceptions and a fumble recovery to go along with six tackles in Saturday's win in the regular-season finale for a BU team that finished as Heart South Division Tri-Champions following the league's final day of action. It marked Karn's second game this year with multiple interceptions after he picked off a couple of passes at Missouri Baptist on Oct. 21.

Karn, a junior from Holton, Kan., ranks second in the nation with seven interceptions this season to lead a Wildcats defense that has forced 22 interceptions which also ranks second in the NAIA. He sits as the team leader in tackles as well with 69 total tackles this year and has recovered two fumbles, including one in the third quarter against the Vikings on Saturday.

With Baker earning an automatic bid to the NAIA playoffs, Karn and the Wildcats will host the first round of the NAIA Football Championship Series with a matchup against Louisiana Christian on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. at Liston Stadium in Baldwin City, Kan.
