McCallop Named Heart Special Teams Player of the Week

BALDWIN CITY - Baker's PJ McCallop Jr. was selected as the Heart Football Special Teams Player of the Week, presented by Musco, following his performance in the Wildcats' 52-0 victory over St. Ambrose in the 2024 season opener this past Saturday.

McCallop, a sophomore from Kansas City, Kan., recorded his first career punt return for a touchdown with an 80-yarder in the second quarter of Saturday's blowout win in Liston Stadium. He pushed his total return yards over 100 after going for 34 yards on his only kickoff return of the game.

On the ensuing SAU possession following his punt return, McCallop, who plays defensive back for the BU secondary, collected his first interception of the season with a pick near midfield to set up the Wildcats' final touchdown of the first half.

Last year as a freshman, McCallop played in seven games and became the team's primary return man, averaging over 20 yards per return on kickoff with 16 returns for 322 yards.

McCallop and the 18th-ranked Wildcats will head out for their first road test with a matchup at William Penn on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11:30 a.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
