No. 17 Baker Crushes Culver-Stockton, 61-7 in Homecoming Blowout
BALDWIN CITY – Posting its highest-scoring outing since 2021, No. 17 Baker steamrolled visiting Culver-Stockton on Saturday afternoon with a 61-7 victory on Homecoming for BU in Baldwin City.
BU tied a program record with three interceptions returned for a touchdown and recorded a safety on special teams, while Truman Juelsgaard tallied four touchdowns for Baker's second game at home with at least 50 points this season.
After taking a 17-0 lead in the first quarter, Baker reeled off a pick-six in every quarter with Canon Karn opening the second period with one, then PJ McCallop Jr. taking one 77 yards to the house in the third and finally Caden Donovan, who capped the blowout with a record-tying pick-six in the fourth.
Baker totaled 469 yards of offense with Juelsgaard going 17-for-21 for 217 yards and three touchdowns, while the BU ground game had five different rushers contribute to its 171 yards with Chauncey Andrews running for a team-high 82 yards.
With Juelsgaard and Sam Heggemann spreading the ball around, a total of 10 receivers hauled in a catch for BU with Gaige Warren leading the team with six receptions for 73 yards. Austin Tabor made the most of his only catch in the game with a 63-yard touchdown play in the first quarter that featured the senior wideout slipping a few tackles for his first touchdown of the season.
With a 33-yard field goal on the team's opening drive, Seth Simpson has now scored the first points for BU in all three of its games this year.
After the BU defense forced a fumble on the following C-SC possession, Juelsgaard punched one in from three yards out to make it a 10-0 lead with just over six minutes ticked off the clock.
Karn's pick-six and Tabor's long touchdown catch put Baker up, 24-0 before Juelsgaard found Billy Brooks for a short pitch-and-catch to give the hosts a 31-point advantage in the second quarter.
Juelsgaard added another touchdown pass inside the 10-yard line right before halftime with Fisher scoring for the first time in his senior campaign to send Baker into the locker room with a 38-0 lead.
BU's defense and special teams took care of the scoring out of the break with McCallop's pick-six, followed by a safety on a botched punt snap that forced the C-SC punter to just run out of his own endzone.
Fisher tacked on his second touchdown of the game with a goal line carry that capped a string of 54 unanswered points for Baker.
After C-SC avoided the shutout with a touchdown late in the third quarter, Donovan's interception return in the fourth quarter finished off the Homecoming victory for BU with their most points in game since defeating MidAmerica Nazarene, 62-20 back in 2021.
It was a milestone game for Karn, who became Baker's career tackles leader with now 285 tackles in his four-year career at BU. He surpassed former Wildcat Colton Miller (2007-2010) and made his record-setting day even more memorable with a forced fumble and six tackles to go along with his pick-six.
With a 54-0 win over St. Ambrose in the season opener, Baker has outscored its opponents by a whopping 113-7 at home and has scored at least 43 points in every game this year.
Moving to 3-0 for the first time since 2020, Baker will head out for a top-20 showdown at No. 14 Benedictine next weekend with the rivalry matchup set for Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
