No. 15 Baker Begins Late-Season Road Swing with Trip to Dubuque
BALDWIN CITY – No. 15 Baker football heads out for the first of its back-to-back road trips with a matchup at Clarke on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
Last week, the Wildcats scored at least 60 points for the third time this year with a 62-7 blowout at home against Central Methodist. BU hung 52 points in an explosive first half that saw them score two consecutive defensive touchdowns within the first minute of the game, followed by five offensive scores with the Baker rushing attack doing most of the heavy lifting.
A year after leading the NAIA in interceptions (25) and defensive touchdowns (6), the Wildcats are once again atop the national rankings this season with seven defensive touchdowns, while their 15 interceptions ranks second.
Carrying a 2-1 record in games away from Baldwin City, Baker posted its most points in a game this season in its previous road contest with a 67-28 win at William Woods a couple of weeks ago. BU defeated William Penn, 43-21 in its first road trip of 2024, before falling to No. 7 Benedictine, 27-24 in Atchison, Kan. in late September.
Clarke enters Saturday's matchup with a 1-7 overall record and is in the midst of a four-game skid with two of the losses coming at home to Peru State (34-9) and William Penn (28-7). The Pride fell on the road last week at William Penn, 28-7 where they went over 100 yards rushing for the fifth time this year. Clarke's rushing attack is led by sophomore Jaden Alveranga who has totaled 450 yards on 91 carries with three touchdowns and averages nearly five yards per rush (4.9).
With Baker head coach Miguel Regalado helping to launch the Clarke football program in 2018, this will just be the fifth meeting between the two teams with the Wilcats winning four the five previous games. BU's lone loss came in Regalado's final season in Dubuque with a 20-19 setback at home in 2022.
Saturday's kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Dalzell Field in Dubuque, Iowa. A live stream of the game can be found on The Heart Conference Network and live stats for the game are available here.
