Wildcats Compete at Northwest Open in First Meet of 2024

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Following a healthy break since its last competition in early December, the Baker men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Maryville, Mo. to compete in the Northwest Open on Saturday in the Wildcats' first outing of 2024.

The Wildcats turned in 10 top-12 performances at the single-day meet, hosted by the Bearcats, with Tavius Woodall placing fourth in the 400-meter men's race as well as another fourth-place finish from the BU men's 4x400m relay team.

Woodall shaved a few seconds off his season-opening time from the Bob Timmons Challenge (52.30), finishing his lap around the track at the 49.61 mark on Saturday. He was the first of three Wildcats to be among the top-10 finishers in the race with freshman Trot Wood following in sixth place on a time of 50.18, while Kemaro Neil ran a 50.44 and came in eighth.

Rachel Sterner captured a couple of top-10 finishes in Maryville after leading the BU distance runners and placing eighth in the 1,000m, while adding a ninth-place finish in the 600-yard race. Natalie Kennedy ran a 3:27.94 to finish behind Sterner in 12th in the 1,000m.

Wyatt Allen also took eighth in the men's race of the 1000m, recording a time of 2:36.76. In the 5,000m, Haley Carter finished just past the 20-minute mark at 20:09.46 to place 10th.

McLane Rawie's eighth-place finish in the mens' long jump highlighted things for BU in the field events. Jayson Brown marked a throw of 13.70 meters and placed 13th in the men's shot, while Colbie Fairley marked her best throw at 12.77 meters to finish in 15th in the women's weight throw.
